The bull bar’s
exact origin is sketchy, but they are believed to have been born in the
bush, where they were designed to protect vehicles from collisions with
animals on isolated roads. In a collision, the bar protects the front
of the vehicle (especially the cooling system), reducing the chances of
the driver being left stranded with a damaged vehicle in a remote location.
Bull bars are
popular, and can be essential equipment in the bush where the risk of
hitting an animal is high (and hitting a pedestrian is less). However,
with many of these vehicles driven mainly on metropolitan streets, the
bull bar has moved from an essential piece of vehicle protection, to a
danger to other road users in the suburban environment.

Nudge
bars
The nudge bar is a small, lightweight bull bar
commonly used for smaller vehicles, such as sedans. Unlike the standard
bull bar, it only protects the radiator grille rather than the entire
front, leaving the fender or bumper free. Because it's easier to install,
it's usually preferred by new drivers who don't have the gear to install
a regular bull bar.
The bull bar can also serve
as a mere accessory for your car. A well-placed, well-chosen bull bar
can give your car a rugged look that sets it apart from other cars on
the road. If you're conscious about scratches on your car, a bull bar
can deflect bushes and small particles to keep it looking smooth. For
a shiny finish, look for a chrome bull bar.
